Inherit the Wind: Should Religion Be Taught Freely in Public Schools

Religion, politics, ethics should be prohibited to be taught in public schools. Should not be taught in public schools because it could corrupt students’ minds, it could offend people and cause conflict that could result into a very violence senareo between parents vs teachers and teachers vs students and that it would be a big battle and result in the hands of the court. Teachers should not teach their students about religion, politics, and ethics because it could corrupt students’ minds.

If a student with a different religion and background was taught a whole new religion, he or she may have a change in personality and start having beliefs in that taught religion. This could cause conflicts between the student and his or her parents who are very strict towards their religion. In the story of Inherit the Wind, the whole town of Hillsboro is full of corrupted minds because everyone in that town believes in the same stuff. They believe that the bible is always right, “I believe it is not boastful to say that I have studied the bible as much as any layman. And I have tried to live according to its precepts. -Brady-page 176-Plays on a Human Theme. Not everyone is religious and it can cause others to be offended. People can be offended if public schools started teaching about If some person with different religious background was being taught about another religion, they maybe offended by what they’re being taught such as different customs beliefs. In the story of Inherit the wind, Bert Cates taught a class about Darwin’s theory of evolution which is against the law. I had the book in my hand, Hunter’s Civic Biology. I opened it up, and read my sophomore science class Chapter 17, Darwin’s Origin of Species. All it says is that man wasn’t just stuck here like a geranium in a flower pot; that living comes from a long miracle, it didn’t just happen in seven days. ”-Bert Cates-page 134-Plays on a Human Theme. If someone is offended, they may start to hate each other and could cause conflicts. Teaching religion, politics, and ethics at public schools can arise in conflict. Conflicts can be student vs. student or student vs. teacher.

Suppose a class is being taught about a particular religion. Some people may object to that religion’s customs and beliefs which can cause conflict between the two parties. Bert Cates from Inherit the Wind goes to court because the whole society of Hillsboro believes in the bible and are against Darwinism. The conflict type is man vs. society. However Bert wins the case and is off trial, and the conflict as well, “ “I’m not sure. Did I win or lose? ” “You won” ”-Bert Cates and Drummond-page 196-Plays on the Human Theme. The conflict was settled when Cates’ trial was over.

Therefore teaching classes religion, politics, and ethics is not a good idea because it can cause conflict. Religion, politics, ethics should be prohibited to be taught in public school. It can cause many problems such as corruption of minds of students, dealing with people who are being offended, and finding solutions for conflicts that occur. The schools will have to not teach this and it will be easier for the students so they dont have to get into trouble with differnt beliefs among the students. It is parents choice to seek what beliefs there children should be raised upon.
