Ea

He is the god of fresh water, crafts, and wisdom, a patron of humankind. Ea lives in Apsu, the primal waters below the Earth. It doesn’t even sound strange that the god of wisdom could be a good character in the book. He appears as a very fair, wise, smart and kind god in this story, and in several seconds you will get why we see him as the main protagonist of the story without whose help anything will be good.

Also, he is a trickster god. In the only Tablet where he appears he did a lot of things – the main one is that he saves Utanapishtim from dying in flood by giving information about it. By the way, he is the only God who did so many things for saving humanity in only one Tablet, in contrast to all other gods.

This character appears in the Tablet 11 when the Flood story begins. According to Utanapishtim story, Ea is the best god of all the times, as he helped him to escape the deadly destiny saying him a secret that flood is coming. He is the god who tells Utanapishtim to make a boat and blesses him to be the only one who is in safety.

Also, Ea doesn’t leave Utanapishtim after the flood. When Enlil (the one who made it) was very angry at seeing survivors and decided to kill them, Ea cover for them. He tells the main god that killing all the humanity is wrong and even stupid.
