strike (noun, /straɪk/) vote (noun, /voʊt/)

Definition: is a secret referendum, in which union members decide whether or not to go on a strike, which depends on the number of votes. When the majority of voters are in favor, a strike vote allows the union leaders to present the employer with the strike notice and to proceed with the protest. A strike vote is always held in a form of a secret ballot. Proceeding with a strike vote does not necessarily mean that the employees are going on an actual strike. Another role of a strike vote is to show the employer that the staff is serious about their proposals. Moreover, a strike vote helps the employees prepare for the strike and be ready to mobilize in case a strike is actually going to happen.
