And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
Quote Analysis
The one of the most famous quotes in the world is said by the Fox, a character of “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery at page 64. The Little Prince is going to return back to his planet and his rose he loves so much. But he has just tamed the Fox and became his friend. The Fox says that he will cry and miss the Prince so much and the Prince asks if he did harm to the Fox by taming him and leaving. The Fox replies that there is no harm and asks the Prince to go watch a field of roses so he can later reveal him his most precious secret.
The Prince sees the countless beautiful roses, but every single one of them was just a rose, not his Rose, the unique and the most darling to him. The Fox was also just a fox before they tamed each other, and that gift of being close, loving and caring is worth the tears and sorrow that will come.
When the Prince returns to the Fox, he tells this quote. It is the Fox’s secret: neither the Fox nor the Prince haven’t changed from outside after the taming, but they both experienced the wonderful changes inside and that’s what is essential in life.
