Adelmo of Otranto, a monk who is the library's manuscript scholar, is the first victim to be found dead in this story. He died very, and it was quite strange for that situation. By the way, Adelmo was a gifted and attractive young illuminator. Without any doubt, the mystery grows more complicated with more monks' deaths. His body was found on the mountainside below the abbey just prior to Adso and William’s arrival, and his death causes their investigation. On the whole, William further discovered that Adelmo had got himself involved in a sex scandal with Berengar of Arundel ( the assistant librarian). It happened because Berengal desperately desired to see the book. The guilt and torment he felt over this relationship after receiving admission from Jorge that led Adelmo to leap to his death. Guilt-ridden, he committed suicide.
