Aruru

The mother goddess who established life and death. A goddess of creation who fashioned Enkidu from clay and her spittle.
This goddess has a very important role and has a huge impact on the whole Mesopotamian mythology. If someone doesn’t know she is the creator of humankind according to their beliefs and mythology. Though in the story called “Epic of Gilgamesh” she has a small role and doesn’t have a lot of lines which makes hard to describe her precisely. Nevertheless, her role is super important, that is why without her we wouldn’t have such a result that we have now.

Well, what was exactly the role of Aruru? At the beginning of the story when Uruk’s people begged Anu to get some help to save from King Gilgamesh, he gave a task to Aruru to do something with it. And what did she do? She created a new man from clay – Enkidu. Yes, exactly she create him. Also, she gets another name – Beletili when Utnapishtim told a story of Flood. According to his story, Aruru/Beletili is one of the godships who was standing in the crowd after Utanapishtim’s ship came back to the land.
Aruru is a key character who is needed for the dynamics of the text, without her, this story wouldn’t be so bright and precise. Even if their actions were not always successful, we still know that she is a creator of all humankind, and all those little mistakes can’t ruin it.
