A young gentleman from France that took a serious decision to move to London. The reason for such impulsive decision was the behavior of his family members that belong to the solid middle class known as the aristocrats. Being well-mannered and polite, Darnay did not understand the way of life of Marquis Evremonde. Similarly to Sydney Carton, Darnay falls in love with Lucie Manette who was not left out in the cold. However, this character managed to win Lucie’s heart, and in the result, Darnay married her. When all the crimes of his family were exposed and introduced to the society, Darnay was arrested and sentenced to capital punishment by guillotine. Sydney Carton took his place giving him the opportunity to make the break for freedom.
