He was the former mayor who dreamed up a scheme to relieve Emily of her tax obligations after her father’s death, and of course it was the proper thing to do. We can start thinking that he was kind and honest. But also, he was deeply racist, and that’s why we can’t like him. Unfortunately, racism was a normal thing in South of that period, and the narration of the story didn’t judge or show emotions about Colonel’s morals. To sum it up, we can say that he was a very low-educated person.
