Edith is Anne’s mother. During the stay in the secret annex, Edith and Anne have lots of quarrels. Her daughter thinks that she is too critical. Edith is against Anne’s relationship with Peter, and this makes Anne feel even more isolated. When the time passes by, Anne begins to rethink her instant attitude to her mother, and she tries to understand her more. However, two women cannot find the sentimental support from each other, and they do not manage to build a caring relationship. Edith died in the concentration camp because of hunger and total exhaustion.
