General Miller is the oldest inhabitant of the Customs House. A place was all interesting things happen. By the way, while reading, we imagine everything and reading about this place we feel very calm and old smell. General is very independent, and no everybody wants to argue with him. What allows him avoiding the politicized battles of positions is that he works there as a Collector. He also protects the other men, not only his friends but all, from being fired, which is why many of the employees are old, and that’s why we feel this smell.
