A man-eating demon that lived in the land of the Spear-Danes. His main aim in life was attacked King Hrothgar’s mead-hall, Heorot every evening. The narrator of the text said that demon’s motivation is hearing Hrothgar’s bard singing songs about topics like, the God who created the world, and this affected to the demonic inner world in the very bad way. A descendant of the biblical Cain, the enormous ogre despises humanity's joy. So, he menaced Hrothgar and the Danes for 12 years before facing Beowulf in battle.
