Hester Prynne

Hester Prynne is the protagonist of the novel. She is the mother of Pearl. Because of having some relationships with city minister and later having a baby with him she needs to wear a red letter ‘A’ which has to be a reminder of her shame. Hester is married to Roger Chillingworth, with whom she now has serious problems as she cheated on him. To be honest, Hester never feels really sorry for what she did. Why? She was happy and did what she wants, so what’s the point? She still doesn’t understand why her punishment has to be so rude and cruel.
