James Ramsay is the youngest child in the family. During the whole story, he demonstrates deep love and empathy to his mother, Mrs. Ramsay. On the contrary, he has no feeling towards his father, treats him with indifference and loathing. As times goes by, James shows many treats of a character similar to his father. The boy’s dream was to attend the lighthouse, which was visible from their house. However, father always refused. After ten years, a boy manages to visit a dream place together with father. His desire to visit a lighthouse symbolizes his desire to become a head of a family.
