Well, what can we say about this character? He is not a dynamic one, neither very important. That’s why we don’t have a lot of information about him. As a human, he is Dutch, and also he’s an Anabaptist. In this novel, he is the one who cares about the adventure of Candide and Pangloss. Nevertheless, even being kind he is showed as a very pessimistic person. Most of all he is pessimistic about human nature. He becomes food for fish in Lisbon in attempt to save the life of an ungrateful sailor.
