Joe is Janie's second husband. He is a perfect match for Janie as he is ambitious, handsome and full of energy. When they both run away from the city to another one, he becomes a mayor. And as usual, he forgets what the main in life is and changed completely. He makes his house white; even to look better and wealthier. In order to make his voice sound better, he tries to shut Janie who was very cruel. Also, he starts saying that her opinions aren’t very important and necessary. Who can stay in such situation for long? When he dies Janie finally feel freedom.
