This hero is the head of a lunatic asylum. Dr.Seward (‘Jack’ to his friends) is roughly the same age as Holmwood and is one of Lucy Westenra's suitors. He is an intelligent and determined man. Also, he is a talented young pupil of Van Helsing. Seward is the administrator of an insane asylum not far from Dracula’s English home. According to the book, Seward is a very brave man. He is never afraid of doing things that a common person, a man, will never do.
Nevertheless, even such cool guys have sometimes problems in their private lives. We mean his love for Lucy. When he proposes her to marry him, she refuses, and he feels heartbroken. But when she suddenly gets ill he didn’t even think; he knew he is going to take care of her.
Also, his journal entries aren't all business—he doesn't stick strictly to his medical cases, but rather includes a lot of personal details about how brokenhearted he is over Lucy. Unfortunately, he isn’t the desired man for Lucy, instead of him, she chooses his friend Arthur. As a result, it's Seward's brokenhearted disappointment that really elicits our sympathy, not Arthur's happiness and then despairs. After her death, he remains dedicated to fighting the count being the member of the Crew of Light.
Also, we know that he is a very loyal friend. When he gets to know that Lucy chose Arthur instead of him he never gets angry, Instead of that, he asks a friend for a drink. So, Dr. Seward is so far from being a dull or boring character. We can easily assume that he is not hot-headed, but smart, strong and faithful.
