Antony is a protagonist of the story. He is a noble soldier who is one of the rules of the Roman Empire. However, Antony neglects his duty of being a ruler by spending lots of free time in Egypt. There he has a love affair with a beautiful Cleopatra. Mark Antony cannot choose between sense and passion. His desire to be an honorable Roman hero and his affection to Cleopatra are in constant contradiction. At the beginning Antony abandons his beloved: he marries Caesar’s sister to get Caesar’s alliance. But his true love is still stronger. When he finds out about Cleopatra’s suicide, he kills himself.
