Tom's evil and tyrannical final master. If Tom is good, Simon is an evil. Legree is a Yankee who has moved to the South to make his money in the plantation business. Being a very big alcoholic, he brutalizes his slaves and forces them to live in the awful conditions that you can even imagine. Also, he doesn’t have respect from other slave-masters. Moreover, he wants his slaves to creep before him. That fact that Tom finds comfort and ways to save his soul turning to the Lord bothers him. He is the one who begins to hate him viciously.
