Titania

Titania is the personification of a strong feminine being. Shakespeare created her in opposition to Oberon, awarding her with magical power and royal title. She is in no way inferior to her husband. Perhaps this is the reason for the strife between them. Oberon in such way is trying to restore traditional foundations, while Titania is struggling to change it. Her pride, pragmatism, and nobility are inherent, but she loses her spouse in the fight. With the help of the spell, Puck makes her fall in love with a “mechanical worker”, having donkey's head. In this episode, there is a parallel with the Homeric witch Circe, but Shakespeare changed places of characters a bit. The image of Titania embodies the challenge of women to the entire patriarchal Athenian society. She fights desperately, but still loses the war to her husband.
