Colonel Brandon

Colonel Brandon is one of the lead characters in the Novel Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. Throughout the narration, he is described as a man at the age of 35 prefers to keep silence instead of talking to people. As a matter of fact, Colonel Brandon is a gentleman with good manners who appears to be a reliable friend to Elinor, the eldest daughter of Mr. Dashwood. In addition, due to his status and exceptional personal qualities, this handsome man is an eligible bachelor, and Mrs. Dashwood considers him to be a great match for one of her daughters.  For Marianne, his future wife, Brandon seems to be an older adult, who is not romantic at all. At the same time, he always behaves with dignity and honor, fulfills the promises, and protects the girl from the devastating influence of other people. Thus, in order not to let Willoughby cause harm to Marianne, he challenges him to take a duel. When she gets ill, Colonel does everything possible to help and remains to be next to the beloved girl for all the time. In the long run, the patience, kindness, and consistency of this man are fully rewarded, and young Marianne makes a final decision to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together.
