Don Pedro is a nice and gentle sea captain from Portugal. He is the main character that helps the reader to understand all the deep meaning of Book IV of Gulliver’s Travels. He is some kind of bridge between the world of Houyhnhnms and the world of Yahoos. When we first meet Don Pedro, it can be clearly seen that he is a very generous and courteous person. He has a good heart; he asks Gulliver if he wants something to eat or drink and takes care of him. Don Pedro saves Gulliver’s life; he takes him back into human society against his will. He lands Gulliver in Lisbon, helps him to adapt to life near people and sends him home to England. After their meeting, Gulliver has some doubts about whether humankind is that awful as he thought before.
