His personage conveyed negative essence as he didn’t support any religion and was sure that power rules the world. He treated slaves as animals that is why he was no in “friendly circle” with other characters. As it turned out, Covey tried to make Douglass his personal slave. Perhaps, it is reasonable to admit that according to the characteristics the personage of Edward Covey is rather controversial and we cannot depict his precise position in the novel.
