We can see a lot of information about this character in the book as he is there from the beginning to the end. Joe is Pip’s brother-in-law and childhood hero. He’s mild, good-natured, sweet-tempered, easy-going, a little foolish. He was active in his weakness. His such strong goodness makes him one of the few sympathetic characters. Being not very well educated, and being unrefined, he consistently acts for the benefit of those he loves and suffers in silence when Pip treats him coldly.
