Well, at the beginning of the novel we can think that John, Eliza, Georgina are just kids who don’t understand what they do. At least John, being the eldest, knows for sure what he’s doing, that he is beating Jane for no reason. He was cruel, spoiled, and ‘mamma’s darling”. Of course, life doesn’t spare and forgive such things. After some time, we got to know that he loses himself into drinking and playing games. When his mother refuses to pay over his debts he commits suicide. Well, it isn’t now that much more refreshing to have ‘a whipping boy,’ yes John?
