As far we keep talking about this family as far we get shocked. June Star – when you hear her name you realize that this will be a very nice girl who will look like an angel?
Unfortunately, not. She is the younger sister of John, daughter of Bailey and granddaughter of the Grandmother. She is so much ornery and always fights with her brother. She never misses an opportunity to kick him, or to say something bad seems like these kids are totally crazy and without any control.
Despite all the things she did with her brother, we still see the attitude of other people to her. Though she's cute, she's just plain nasty to everybody, as we learn pretty early on in the story from the way she treats her grandmother:
"She wouldn't stay at home for a million bucks," June Star said. "Afraid she'd miss something. She has to go everywhere we go."
Or how about her nice little exchange with Red Sammy's wife:
"Ain't she cute?" Red Sam's wife said, leaning over the counter. "Would you like to come to be my little girl?"
"No I certainly wouldn't," June Star said. "I wouldn't live in a broken-down place like this for a million bucks!" and she ran back to the table.”
And the last phrase leads us to the next part – she liked saying a phrase “a million bucks” more than life. She added it completely to everything.
When her Grandmother was talking about the Misfit, she suddenly concluded with one very wise and deep phrase which she kept repeating after the Red Sammy – “A good man is hard to find.” Doesn’t it mean that being so little she already started thinking about such adult things?
Unfortunately, she was also killed at the end of the story together with her mother and the baby. She is murdered in the woods by Hiram and Bobby Lee.
