He is a supervisor at Meursault's work. He is obsessed with work and doesn’t like giving free days to his workers. Also, he is annoyed and angry with the idea of giving for Meursault four days off; it doesn’t matter for him that two days Meursault needed to spend in his mother’s funeral. After that, of course, he was calmer and soft, even asks how the funeral was. He even gave a chance for Meursault to move into Paris. When he refuses to accept the proposition with Paris boss becomes very angry and doesn’t understand how Mersault can have such a lack of ambition.
