He is minor character of the poem. Polyphemus is a gigantic Cyclopes whose island Odysseus comes soon after leaving Troy. Polyphemus is a son of Poseidon. It is complicated and impossible to speak about the inner world and personal characteristics of this creature but we can conclude that it is a negative antagonist. According to the plot he imprisoned Odysseus and tried to eat him. Thanks to the braveness and intelligence Odysseus escaped and saved his life. As it turned out, Homer created this personage in order to show the number of troubles that a person can have on the life path.
