He is an attorney, an enterprising and egoistic businessman. His main crime is his overwhelming, relentless arrogance and self-interest. He is the only character who refuses to recognize his faults. Impressed by the beauty and enlightenment of Dunya Raskolnikov, Luzhin makes her offer. He thinks that the noble girl who has experienced a lot of misery will obey him all her life. Also, Pyotr hopes that the charm of the virtuous woman will help his career. He has been expelled by Raskolnikov and feels hatred towards him; then he tries to quarrel Rodion with his mother and sister, provoking a scandal. He wanted to blame Sonya for theft but was shamefully exposed.
