The most spiritual and innately good person, Simon represents all the positive features that humanity can be proud of. He is sensitive and takes care of the more vulnerable children. But his love for solitude and respect for nature make him an outcast on the island full of barbarized teenagers. His eagerness to work for the benefit of the community encourages Simon to find out the true nature of the beast. But he has no chance to reveal it others – they believe him to be the beast himself and during a vicious tribal ritual, Simon gets killed by frightened boys. His death is a symbol of the overwhelming power evil has on every human being.
