Comparative Study between Anthem Vs. The Island
Anthem and The Island are similarly alike in various ways despite the fact that “Anthem” is a novel and “The Island” is a movie. The two stories portray the same thought process on the elimination from their freedom and rights. Both societies are under a ruling body of civilization and power of control. The characters from both the novel and the movie are in the process of finding a discovery within each society. The consequences are severe if they are found to be against the powers that be which include persecution. Anthem and The Island, tend to live upon a very mysterious lifestyle with missing components they are unknown throughout life.
The comparisons are shown through the following six types of categories that strongly represent the trends of similarity throughout the novel “Anthem” and the movie “The Island”. The six most important types that portray great examples amongst the two stories are: the setting of their limited freedom, the characters who search upon discovery, the education the characters are unknown with limited access to, the romantic relationships between the main characters, the technology that was involved and finally their punishments when it came to society doing something wrong.
The place settings of Anthem and The Island were quite similar as both societies were under many circumstances and rules to be followed along. The land looked nothing but an unknown paradise to the surrounding characters. Anthem’s setting show an unspecified future date of darkness that was under control of manipulation. Many were characterized by irrationally collectivism, socialistic thinking and economics towards their life. The Island, on the other hand demonstrated this perfect paradise world that tends to be a massive utopian factory that human civilization invested in. The characters believe they are living along a reasonable lifestyle that are relying on a win of the lottery to a set free place known as the island which is only a matter of death. Each clone in the factory lab is said to be a real person but is a cloned replica of a real life individual that is somewhere out in the real world.
The characters portray the same relation and friendship between Anthem and the island. There are the main characters such as Equality, liberty and friends with a battle towards the world of councils of out coming problems. In the movie “The Island” the same idea is initialized amongst the main characters Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) along with Jordan Two Delta (Scarlett Johnson) and the other clones who encounter upcoming challenges against controlling Dr. Merrick.
Both the Anthem and The Island demonstrate a romantic relationship along the way of their adventure. Although the characters show a difficult time of expressing love toward each other. It was initially hidden on behalf of the character’s capacity of knowledge. The novel and movie portray a visible love story of care and affection in relation to the main characters. It is shown through much detail and viewable subscription to audience that the couple’s relation such as Equality and Liberty from the Anthem along with Lincoln and Jordan from The Island encounter many challenges of unknown expression. Anthems problem is hidden from the unmentionable times are the word “I” and were eliminated from society’s life of individuality. The Island was kept away from the real world as lived upon their own world that happened to be a factory lab. The Island’s people are left unsure and unknown on what it truly means to live a living.
Education is limited partaking in many manipulative procedures towards society in both stories. The characters knowledge development is only educated up to a certain extent to the individual that is control’s benefit. Anthem’s education is limited upon certain resources of growing up as they were carried through home of infants, home of students and home of sweepers. Anthem’s societies are in the future with left behind knowledge from the unmentionable times. Anthem’s characters are eliminated from individualist ideas leaving their society with an exclusive use of plural pronouns towards communication. The Island’s education is built upon experimental stories that are injected into their minds of born cloning with programmed knowledge on who they are, where they come from, and what their exact purpose in life is. They are left unknown on the real world and what they are really created for.
The technology from Anthem and The Island differ amongst each other. Anthem’s top technology was the power electricity. Lighting was discovered by Equality from the underground tunnel as electricity came found that he wanted to present to world councils in proof of the hidden. The Island’s Technology was in their paradise utopian land that was just an experimental factory that reborn replica clones who thought they were living a real life. The hidden factor was that real people who lived around the real world have invested a large amount of money to secure body parts in the matter of being ready to use when needed.
Lastly, the common sentence that Anthem and The Island both feared was the punishment. When behavioral factors were out of line, they were on accusation of being persecuted towards death. Anthem’s society had an impact of the concept of individuality being eliminated, if the unspoken word “I” the power of ego is said, their life is in the risk of death. The Island’s problem was once known about the experimental factory lab as the individual realizes they are just a clone. Persecution of death is permitted as a rumor and cannot get around to others as it perhaps may ruin the run of the whole factory lab.
For all these reasons, the two stories with the inclusion of the setting of their limited freedom. The characters who search upon discovery, the unknown limit access to education, the romantic relationships between the main characters, the technology that was involved and finally their punishments when it came to society doing something wrong. In conclusion the comparisons are strongly shown through the following six types of categories that strongly represent the trends of similarity throughout the novel “Anthem” and the movie” The Island”.
