Alby

Alby

Being an outrageous leader of the Gladers, Alby is the oldest and the most trusted man in The Glade who keeps everything under his control. He is a person of color with a short-cropped hair and dark eyes. His face is always cleanly shaved. Throughout the story, the man has authority over much of what happens.  He is a very experienced leader, and everyone follows his orders. By the way, only a few Gladers who have been there the longest seem to question his decisions. Regardless of his relentless enforcement of the strict laws, Alby is a very intelligent leader of the Glade who can inspire bravery in a team. Also, he successfully gets a loyal attitude from other Gladers. It should be mentioned that later in the book, he is the character who goes probably the most dramatic change. After Alby goes through the Changing, he learns about the devastations existing in the outside world. Consequently, the man loses his will to lead the Gladers and his inspirations.  The primary reason why he transforms from leader to martyr is that his newfound memories overwhelm him. Hence, Alby decides to hopelessly cling to the Glade and enjoy the perfect life it offers. Also, Alby plays a significant role in promoting Thomas's confidence. It is Alby who presents Thomas to The Glade. Talking about his personality, Alby is actually a reliable leader and eventually sacrifices himself to the Grievers, protecting his friends.
