His name is a mixture of names of Bernard Shaw and Karl Marx. It has a hidden figurative sense. Bernard Marx is a character, which also is a victim of a dystopia. His distinctive feature is that he realizes his individuality. Society did not accept him, as he differed from other people being short, unattractive and very restricted. He was arrested being not far from John, who was beaten for his rebellious views. Because of his insecurity and low self-esteem society does not accept him. The authorities of the state send him to Iceland, where people become so independently minded that they cannot live in the society.
