Edna Pontellier

Edna is the main hero of the text, and the word “awakening”  refers exactly to her. She is 28 years old; she lives the normal life of an average person. But the story wouldn’t be the one if there won’t be some culmination. Someday Edna finds herself very dissatisfied with everything she has – husband, limited lifestyle, work, house – everything. She starts thinking about who is she and what she wants. Suddenly she found that she has an identity, and also emotional and sexual desires.  Through the story, Edna becomes an incredibly independent woman who lives far from her husband and children feeling finally happy.
