The main protagonist is a handsome and intelligent explorer who defies the conventions of his time and advocates against the philosophy of collectivism. His name, Equality, is quite ironic as he demonstrates the superiority of a separate human intellect over the unthinking majority which constitutes the future society. Apart from being a Street Sweeper, this man has an exceptionally curious mind which turns him into an inventor. Fascinated by science, he conducts his own secret experiments and reinvents a light bulb. His personality undergoes several important transformations which allow Equality 7-2521 to discover his inner I. Forced into exile, he takes a new name – Prometheus, the bearer of progress and enlightenment. Together with the Golden One, he reveals the pleasure of following desires as well as realizing his personal value.
